Environmental grant money is hard at work
Hudson Middle School science teacher and Kohl fellow Cindy Landers says environmental education in the Hudson School District got a big boost from a $30,000 Wisconsin Environmental Education Board (WEEB) grant.
Landers wrote the grant, and has been busy over the last couple of years spending the money on a variety of projects.
The last two summers saw educators from across the district participate in teacher education programs like Earth Partnership, LEAF, and project WILD classes. The grant also provided for valuable planning time for teachers to write environmental lesson plans and curriculum.
Grant funds were also used by volunteers to erect educational kiosks in the school forest and for the construction of a school forest pavilion. The structure will serve as an outdoor classroom, complete with supplies and tools for outdoor study. Landers says Hudson High School shop classes are making cedar tables for the pavilion.
Landers most recently took delivery on new curriculum materials that will be used in a variety of classes for environmental study from science to art.
