New city districts in effect for Feb. 21 primary
Arguably the biggest news from a 10-minute Hudson City Council meeting on Feb. 6 was that the new aldermanic districts will be in effect for the Feb. 21 primary.
The city’s six aldermanic districts underwent major reshaping in the redistricting process that followed the 2010 census.
“The people are re-arranged quite a bit, especially on the south side of the freeway,” City Clerk Nancy Korson said in a phone call Tuesday.
The area south of I-94 is now divided between Districts 1, 2 and 4, where previously it was covered by only Districts 1 and 2.
The boundaries of Districts 3 and 4 were redrawn significantly, with District 3 to the west of District 4, where previously the opposite was the case.
“Really, everybody is potentially in a different district,” Korson said.
She said letters were mailed to every household with a registered voter earlier this week informing them of their current aldermanic district and polling place.
Anyone who didn’t get a letter isn’t registered to vote, Korson said. She said if they want to vote on Feb. 21, they will need to bring proof of residency and a current photo ID to the polling place.
