Free hearing, blood pressure screenings set for Feb. 29
Hudson Hearing Clinic is joining the Better Hearing Institute in promoting American Heart Month by raising awareness of the threat that heart disease poses on hearing health by offering walk-in hearing screenings for the community at Hudson Hospital & Clinics on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hudson Hearing Clinic with Hudson Hospital & Clinics will host an event which includes free hearing screenings and free blood pressure checks. Free will donations are welcomed to the Hudson Hospital Foundation Heart Disease Fund; Hudson Hearing Clinic will match each donation dollar for dollar. The goal is to raise at least $1,000 for the Hospital Foundation to use for heart disease patient education.
“Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States,” said Michele Drevnick, audiologist at Hudson Hearing Clinic. “At Hudson Hearing Clinic and Hudson Hospital, we want to help raise awareness of the serious threat it poses to each of us personally and to inform people of the connection between heart health and hearing health. We urge women and men alike to know their risks and to take action today to protect their heart—and hearing—health.”
The inner ear is extremely sensitive to blood flow. Studies have shown that a healthy cardiovascular system — a person’s heart, arteries, and veins — has a positive effect on hearing. Conversely, inadequate blood flow and trauma to the blood vessels of the inner ear can contribute to hearing loss.
“Our participation in American Heart Month enables the hearing health community to make an important contribution to saving millions of lives,” said Dr. Sergei Kochkin, Executive Director of the Better Hearing Institute. “This is an opportunity to highlight the connection that heart health has on hearing health and to empower people with that knowledge. People with heart disease should not have to contend with the additional toll that unaddressed hearing loss takes on their quality of life.”
Walk-ins welcome and no appointments needed for the event. Screenings will take place at the Hudson Hearing Clinic which is located on the second floor of the Hudson Hospital & Clinics. For more information, contact Hudson Hearing Clinic at (715) 531-6710.
